International Mind, Body, Wellness Day
As we step into the first Monday of 2022 with bright eyes for a new year, it may seem counterintuitive to ask you to remember to pause. Many of us are going back to work with the intention to absolutely slay. To create lasting endurance and performance and prevent burnout, remembering to pause and find balance is vital. Today is International Mind Body Wellness Day, and the perfect reminder to start this New Year off by putting your mental health first.
International Mind, Body, Wellness Day is an opportunity to celebrate the connections mind, body, and soul have towards a healthier life. As leaders in healthy hair care, we understand health as a foundation in your life builds a resilient base for subsequent life challenges. Take the opportunity to ask yourself not “how can I do more this year?” but rather, “How can I use a mind, body balance to consistently achieve greater goals?”
Just like color adheres to hair better when the canvas is healthy, so do our actions, workflow, and mental health when we’re connected and balanced. So what is wellness? In general, wellness is the act of abandoning unhealthy habits and adopting healthy ones into our lives. Some obvious ones may be eating healthy, exercising, and meditating. Some not-so-obvious ones are softening our inner critic, nurturing ourselves with self-care, and learning the power of saying ‘no’ to protect our yeses.
According to the World Health Organization, “Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”
Three ways to increase wellness in your life:
- Let go of what no longer serves you, whether it’s toxic relationships, habits, friendships, or work environments that cause stress and drama in your life.
- Surround yourself with motivating, positive, supportive people.
- Practice gratitude daily. Write down what you’re grateful for, from your home, to your health and include affirmations of what you want to manifest into your life.
Being the best version of yourself is a life-long practice. Wellness isn’t achieved overnight, and it can look different from day to day. Be gentle with yourself and ask how you can feel balanced today and what steps you can take to be the best you.
